Lilies are not only a pretty touch to your completed pond but they restrict solar UV rays from getting down into your aquatic ecosystem which causes algae growth.

In order to avoid this, it is important to add one four gallon container of water lilies for every two square yards of pond area. Try to aim for a minimum of 50% pond coverage but up to 75% is best.
